Reader Review: All I can say is "Awww Hel!" Actually, her name is Heloise, but that's just to big a name for such a tiny woman, so I just called her Hel! Believe me the name fit! LOL She has befuddled down to a fine art. The anticipation, confusion, and uncertainty all thru this story was so good. Is was a great read.

The Earl's Untouched Bride

Giddings opened the door to find His Lordship standing upon the step, his face set in such rigid lines a shiver went down his spine. It was a relief when the Earl of Walton looked straight through him as he handed over his hat and coat, turning immediately towards the door to the salon. Thank God young Conningsby had taken it into his head to pass out on one of the sofas in there, instead of staggering back to his own lodgings the previous night. It was far better that it should be a man who could answer back, rather than a hapless member of staff, who became the butt of His Lordship's present mood.

But Charles Algernon Fawley, the ninth Earl of Walton, ignored Conningsby too. Striding across the room to the sideboard, he merely unstoppered a crystal decanter, pouring its entire contents into the last clean tumbler upon the tray.

Conningsby opened one eye warily, and rolled it in the Earl's direction. 'Breakfast atTortoni's?' he grated hoarsely.

Charles tossed the glass of brandy back in one go, and reached for the decanter again.

'Don't look as though you enjoyed it much,' Conningsby observed, wincing as he struggled to sit up.

'No.' As the Earl realised the decanter was empty, his fingers curled round its neck as though he wished he could strangle it. 'And if you dare say I told you so…'

'Wouldn't dream of it, my lord. But what I will say is—'

'No. I listened to all you had to say last night, and, while I am grateful for your concern, my decision remains the same. I am not going to slink out of Paris with my tail between my legs like some whipped cur. I will not have it said that some false, painted jilt has made the slightest impact on my heart. I am staying until the lease on this apartment

I can't stand Heloise. She's absolutely the dumbes

I can't stand Heloise. She's absolutely the dumbest and most spineless person in the world. I can't stand the fact that she is always doubting herself and doubting Charles. I mean for god's sake can't you see jealousy in front of you or read non-verbal cues.

When I first read the overview I knew I had to have it. A second choice marriage of a powerful, wealthy, handsome man and a woman who lacks in every category of the 'ideal' wife. Marriage of convenience no longer when the Earl and his lady fall in love. These kinds of plots are my ideal Historical romance but it didn't live up to my expectations in this book. There was more dialogue and activity with his bride and his brother than with her and himself and this lead to jealousy yet obviously not enough to take matters in to his own hands. Despite his fears he continued to watch and draw conclusions than do somethng about it, like woo his wife. There wasn't adequate time spent with each other and this was frustrating. A built up lust never shown to each other, consummation of marriage was towards the later half of the book and her jealousy of her husbands ex mistress was ridiculous because there was nothing there to cause it other than what the ex lead her to believe. If he was seen in her company then yes I'd say ok but this wasn't the case. It certainly wouldve spiced things up if he were seen with his ex though. It would've been better if the two spent more time together and actually showed one another that they desired each other. There was a lot of misunderstandings between the two. All in all it was not bad.
