Reader Review: I absolutely adored this book! Peyton and JD are completely normal characters, the situation they wind up in feels like a totally normal one and yet, you don't get bored with a "normal" love story. I actually laughed out loud at this book while reading it, which is HUGE for me. But really, what it came down to was two very likeable characters who you can't help rooting for. I'm looking forward to more books from Ms James!
When it comes to the laws of attraction, there are no rules The battle between the sexes is about to make these two lawyers hot under the collar. Opposites collide when two lawyers try to make partner at the same firm. Payton Kendall is a feminist to the bone. Cocky J.D. Jameson was born privileged. But when they're asked to join forces on a major case, they gain a newfound awareness of each other's personal assets. The partnership spot will be offered to only one of them, though. The competition heats up. Sparks fly. Let the games begin.

Title: Practice Makes Perfect August 21, 2012 Paxton and J.D. both are fantastic characters. I really enjoyed their interactions and the development of their relationship was real and engaging to read. A fantastic contemporary story, without any over-the-top elements. I absolutely LOVE the ending and am looking forward to reading more books by this author!

I enjoyed reading this book while I was doing so, but in retrospect, it wasn't anything terribly special. Almost nothing about the plot was at all surprising, most of the secondary characters were more like caricatures, and even the two leads seemed lightly sketched.
The so-sudden heat between the leads, after eight years of battling each other, just doesn't seem like enough to justify their behavior at the end of the story. Sure, they've discovered that they respect each other professionally, yadda yadda yadda, but that's a far cry from finding themselves in love. Maybe it's crass of me, but I kind of wish there were more sex; oddly, I think it would add depth to the story.
If, like me, you read James's "Something About You" first and were looking for more of the same, I suspect you'll be disappointed. Then again, if you prefer relatively chaste romances in which all the swear words are swallowed after the first letter and all the sex happens offstage (which is also true in "Something About You," but that relationship has soooo much more texture and heat), perhaps this is the book for you.

Julie James is a new favorite of mine. This is the second book I have read by her. I loved both of them. The relationship between Payton and JD is very realistic and believable. The dialogue is amazing. I love the story. It made me laugh out loud. Great story!
