Reader Review: It took me a bit to get into this story, and maybe due to it being written in first person. However, about 1/3 into the book I was hooked. It has an exciting ending, which actually gives you much better insight into and appreciation of Harry Dresden. My advice is to stick with it if you find yourself drifting. It has a nice payoff.

"Storm Front" is the opening salvo for Jim Butcher

"Storm Front" is the opening salvo for Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series. Professional wizard Harry Dresden is called in on a bizarre murder, but he gets more than he bargained for when he winds up caught in a web of black magic, organized crime, and revenge. Butcher's prose is wonderful, full of humor and grit without being overdone, and Harry Dresden is a thoroughly likeable hero. Read it!

I really, really liked this one and I'm looking forward to the others of the series :-) I liked the interesting mix of magic and murder mystery, and I was always wondering just what was going to happen next. Plus, there is quite a bit of humor, which is always a plus with me :-)
I also loved how the hero was NOT the typical "hard-boiled detective." He really seemed like a decent guy and a good person--someone I could root for (and did).
Not worth all the fuss.

Got halfway through before tossing it aside. I really have no idea why people are always recommending this series. I didn't connect with Harry Dresdan at all. And the story was a bit dull. It wasn't like I was staying up into the early morning just to finish it like I've done with many other paranormal/urban fantasy series.
Stick with this series
