Reader Review: The first half of this book was SLOW, all telling, no showing. We get to know the characters through gigantic information dumps that summarise events of past books. Thankfully the storytelling improved a lot as the book went on. After struggling through the first half, I enjoyed the second half and bumped up the rating. Though the final chapter was a bit too much! Robyn Carr deserves credit for a more focused tale. Not all of her stories â with their multiple tangents â pull together so well, but this one didnât lose sight of the main story. After a terrible beginning, I did come to enjoy the relationship between Aiden and Erin. This was one of the better Virgin River love stories. Maybe all the happy, small-town, gooey, baby-filled goodness isnât enough for me anymore. The authorâs prejudices used to annoy me; now they infuriate me. For example, yet again itâs only the evil villain who doesnât want babies. The author has strange ideas about age, and made some comments about women both in their thirties and sixties that upset me. The book is a combination of the authorâs favourite things. Gynaecology, childbirth, children with speech impediments, and heroic people who have escaped the âevilâ cities. I didnât need to be beaten over the head with a sledgehammer that we should be nice to people with Down syndrome. Though this was an improvement on the last few installments in the series, Virgin River is seeming a bit tired. Each book introduces new characters, but they all have the same values and wants. The Riordan clan is a mixed bag. Maureen is a waste of page space. Annoying, spoilt Rosie is too old for a speech impediment. However, I liked Luke, and I was surprised to like Aiden too â even if he is obsessed with womenâs nether regions in more ways than one. Moonlight Road is better than anything since Temptation Ridge. But itâs time for Virgin River to be put to rest. I would love Robyn Carr to try a new series.
With her beloved younger siblings settled and happy, Erin Foley has empty nest syndrome. At age thirty-five.
So she's hitting the pause button on her life and holing up in a secluded (but totally upgraded--she's not into roughing it) cabin near Virgin River. Erin is planning on getting to know herself...not the shaggy-haired mountain man she meets.
In fact, beneath his faded fatigues and bushy beard, Aiden Riordan is a doctor, recharging for a summer after leaving the navy. He's intrigued by the pretty, slightly snooty refugee from the rat race--her meditating and journaling are definitely keeping him at arm's length. He'd love to get closer... if his scruffy exterior and crazy ex-wife don't hold him back.
But maybe it's something in the water--unlikely romances seem to take root in Virgin River...helped along by some well-intentioned meddling, of course.

Moonlight Road
For a man without a mission for the first time since he could remember, this lay-back time was working out to his liking. Since undergrad in premed, he hadn't been without incredibly stiff goals. Now, at age thirty-six, after fourteen years in the navy, he was between jobs, completely unsure where he'd land next, and he felt good about it. Motivation interruptus had turned out to be a delightful state of being. The only thing he was certain of, he wasn't leaving Virgin River before the middle of summer. His older brother Luke and sister-in-law Shelby were expecting their first child, and he damn sure wasn't going to miss that. His brother Sean would soon be home from Iraq and planned a short leave before heading with his wife, Franci, and daughter, Rosie, to his next assignment, and Aiden looked forward to a little time with him, as well.
The June sun beat down on him. He wore fatigue pants, hiking boots and a tan T-shirt with salty perspiration rings under the arms. He was wet down his chest and back and smelled pretty ripe. He carried a camouflage backpack for protein bars and water, and strapped to his belt, a machete for clearing any brush that got in his way. He had a ball cap on his head and his black hair had already started to curl out from under the edges. A four-foot-tall walking staff had become his cons
...Title: Moonlight Road July 23, 2011 Erin Foley returns to Virgin River for some long overdue R & R....in fact, she hasn't taken a vacation in at least ten years. Erin first appeared in A Virgin River Christmas when she tried to retrieve her sister Marcie from Ian Buchanan's rustic cabin. Now that Ian and Marcie are married and living on their own and brother Drew has finished medical school, Erin can take some time for herself. The problem...she has no idea how to relax. She renovated Ian's cabin to have all the creature comforts but she's bored out of her mind and has three months of this "bliss" to look forward to.

Aiden Riordan is separating from the Navy after more than ten years of service and has decided spend some time in Virgin River before he decides his next career move. He's an OB-GYN and hasn't even decided where he wants to live. He's roughing it in the woods, scruffy beard and all, hiking through the town's mountain trails.
Aiden surprises Erin during one of his hikes when he suddenly appears at her deck, causing her to fall and have a concussion. He takes her to the hospital where she continues to assume he's a laborer and he does nothing to discourage her misconception. Aiden continues to visit her cabin, handling her gardening. He finds her intriguing...she is oddly attracted to him. It's not long before they begin a romance.
What's charming about Erin and Aiden's relationship is that they are both at crossroads in their lives, and not just their careers. Aiden wants what his brother,Luke, has found with Shelby and Erin wants what her sister Marcie has with Ian. They recognize something's missing but didn't see each other as the solution. Aiden doesn't take Erin as seriously as she takes herself and she learns to just breathe because of his influence. Their romance evolves so naturally, with lots of humor and great banter.
This story does include some tension as issues related to Aiden's first marriage surface. Other characters from the series make an appearance, which is part of the Virgin River charm. You cannot help liking this couple and pulling for their relationship. There is a scene involving a bear you don't want to miss, too.
I loved the story, Aiden and Erin, and the continued spirit of community in Virgin River. This is a worthy installment of the series and I'm off to the next one.

I have read every Virgin River book and besides the first one, I cant even pick a favorite. Robyn makes you feel like you are there every time and a part of this family of friends making you wish it was a real place to visit with the real people to be your friends. I cant wait until next year for the next four books. I would love to see her continue to keep Jack and Mel tidbits, I love them and look forward to them from every book. Great continuing book as usual.
