Reader Review: This latest offering from Yogani provides an extended overview of his Advanced Yoga Practices (AYP) system, an integrated smorgasbord of mental and physical techniques that allows just about anyone with sufficient motivation to self-structure and self-pace a meaningful practice of yoga meditation. Detailed instructions for these techniques are available in other volumes by this author, including the comprehensive ADVANCED YOGA PRACTICES – EASY LESSONS FOR ECSTATIC LIVING and the AYP Enlightenment Series. Here his concern is to establish a framework for understanding the system as a whole and how it can be applied to an individual’s needs and situation in life. The goal is to help us take responsibility for our own spiritual progress, to cultivate a self-sufficient practice. “All of yoga,” the author points out, “is a product of the human nervous system.” Or, as he likes to say, “The guru is in you.” The key to our spiritual possibilities lies within our own bodies and minds. Yet, as with learning to drive, we don’t need to understand our neural complexity “under the hood” to work a few key techniques – the “controls” – to activate and develop our potential. What’s important, instead, is to heed the “rules of the road” and pay attention to where we’re going! To this end, Yogani provides valuable guidance on how to gauge and pace our progress to avoid unnecessary nervous and physical strain. At the same time, he provides encouraging counsel on how to maintain a consistent practice in the face of hectic schedules and the crunch of everyday life. Not only AYP practitioners, but anyone who meditates or practices yoga will find these discussions useful.

The center of all spiritual progress is found within each human nervous system. When time-tested methods for stimulating the transformation are applied in an integrated way, progress can occur within any cultural or religious setting. Building a self-directed practice routine for the long term is covered here.
