An absorbing fantasy adventure, Ocean of Marvels takes place in a beguiling, old-fashioned, vaguely European world of mythological dreams with innocent, modest, swashbuckling heroes. Three unassuming, young male dreamers from an idyllic but all-too-quiet village meet and befriend an aged hero, who has achieved life-long prosperity and esteem, owing to his brave exploits on the legendary Ocean of Marvels and, in particular, its fantastic islands of enlightenment, stone men and Cliffs of Prosperity. He relates to them how he once overcame many trials and threatening situations, culminating in his presentation to the Goddess of the Elements, who rewarded him with a constantly refilled box of gold coins. However, the adventure was not without some lasting regret and suffering for the hero. Our current heroes-a baker, a gardener and an inept but sensitive and good-hearted handyman-are infected by the prospect of adventure so, throwing caution to the wind, undertake to follow the old sailor's example in his very tracks. They are accompanied by an astute and wily cat-talisman and parting gift from the seaman himself. Encountering unexpected help, misadventures, dangerous obstacles and even romance along the way, they band together and make their way to the not entirely welcoming but truly wondrous Ocean of Marvels. Evocative of simpler times and honorable quests, this lively, challengingly written first book of a planned trilogy draws the reader into a lyrically fresh, originally imagined world of nearly impossible escapes and agreeably identifiable characters.

Ocean of Marvels: Book I
Chapter One
The Dreamers of Verling Signal Events
Long ago, about 300 years ago or maybe even longer, nestled in the attractive green hills of a certain European country there was a jolly little village called Verling. Situated on the side of the country farthest from large cities and major roads, Verling was almost never drawn into its wars or government disturbances. Perhaps that was the reason why peace, friendliness and prosperity reigned there. A great assortment of gardens and glades were positioned around its lovely, little houses. In spring and summer, Verling was drenched in color, while in autumn, it unfolded in an astonishing palette.
The village's inhabitants were friendly in the extreme. In the evening, it was customary to visit one another, while on weekends; many liked to gather at the spacious, homey tavern of Uncle Rothphild. There one could dance, to the caressing playing of local musicians, partake of the unrivalled tall-tales of Uncle and his better half and discuss the latest news over a mug of punch.
One of the most honored and best-loved residents of the village was the pleasant, kind-hearted baker, Vidi. Of average height and, like all bakers, with a small paunch, Vidi was the unsurpassed master of superb, omnifarious baked treats. His two-story house stood in the very center of Verling, not far from the town square. His bakery, the shelves of which were always ornamented by the freshest rolls, pies, cookies, custard tarts and other wonderfully tasty delights beckoning customers, was located on the ground floor. The second floor was occupied by a bedroom and a cozy living room, where Vidi entertain
