Chapter One
Welcome to BUtFish
"Hayden! Time to wake up! You don't want to be late for your very first day of seventh grade, do you?" My mom yelled a few rooms away from where I was so comfortably laying in bed.
"Yeah I do!" I garbled back at her. Then I heard my door open and the sound of her footsteps and the sound of water sloshing around in a glass. I didn't need to be yelled at again to know the I'd better get out of bed before the glass of water was dumped on me. I tried to move, but I couldn't. I was like petrified wood laying there, trying to move but unable to. A second later the glassful of water was spilled all over my hair and face.
"What the ...?" Mom! Why did you do that?" I yelled, my head and neck freezing from the water.
"Well, you wouldn't get up," she said, a little surprised herself that she did actually pour the water on me.
"SO!" I yelled so loudly I hurt my own ears, one of which was flied with water.
"Hayden," she said firmly, "I want you to get up and get dressed NOW."
"But!" I started to say.
"NO BUTS! I SAID NOW!" she screamed at me louder than ever. I was certain she made me deaf, but unbelievably, my hearing held.
I made the usual "Aw" sound effect while I pulled on a pair of pants. Somewhere between the sound effect and getting dressed I thought, "That was so lame of her, I did nothing." But a part of me knew I did go a little over the line, and I was lucky to avoid grounding.
