Chapter One
Bringing More than a Song
A Piece of God's Word - "Sing to the Lord a new song. Sing His praises in the assembly of the faithful. O Israel, rejoice in your Maker. O people of Jerusalem, exalt in your King. Praise His name with dancing, accompanied by tambourine and harp." - Psalm 149:1-3
Throughout the scriptures, the magnificent nature of God is revealed. The nature of God is good and gracious to save His people. What is your personal perception of God? Is it the image of Him sitting on the throne of heaven, shouting blatant commands like a mythical idol out to strike us down with lighting bolts if we do not comply with His wishes? How different God is from our earthy Kings who demand only our forced adoration and not the love of our heart. Our heavenly King seeks to start in the heart, having what transformed on the inside lived out in jubilation on the outside. The well spring of our heart is also what motivates our devotion and what will be poured out for all to see. God does not simply want us to sing Him a song; God wants the song that we sing to match the motives in which they are offered. There should be something so passionate and so alive when we worship the Creator of the universe that drives us to stand in His presence simply awestruck at the splendor. The experience can sometimes even be indescribable. The command given by the eternal King is thus: Come, now is the time to worship; for you have seen the great things I do for you!
What does all this emotional tension we possess on the inside show when it is released and lifted up to the heavens? One word will cover it - praise.
