I Don't Like Corn Flakes, or Mum's New Spectacles covers the second period of the twentieth century, up to the present. The book is organized by the appropriate time periods, pre-war, wartime, and post war. All the stories are factual, with the exception of The Cruise and Don't Wave, We Are British because these stories were told to the author by the crew.
I Don't Like Corn Flakes tells the story of the author's younger years, ending with a very whimsical episode involving a sample of Kellogg's Corn Flakes and his father. It captures the essence of growing up in the 1930s in England. If you have you ever been frightened by your mother, you'll shake your head in agreement as you read Mum's New Spectacles. The author loved his Mum very much, but, there were definitely times when they didn't quite understand each other.
These stories capture a time long gone filled with interesting characters and touching, yet funny experiences that bring the essence of the author's life to the reader. From his first serious girlfriend who sent him a Dear John as soon as he volunteered for the Navy to his stories of World War II, the author has expressed the human side of his experiences.
