B.J. Sharp: Early American Migration takes place in September 1802 as Benjamin Joseph Sharp's wife of twelve years is about to give birth to their third child. Mary Elisabeth had a difficult delivery with their last child, Benjamin Joseph Jr. and he wanted to get Doc Henson at the first sign that the baby was coming. Ben was a gunsmith and had always dreamed of building a new kind of gun, but, his brothers had fought the idea. So, he worked with his friend, Nate, to fulfill his dream; they made six of the special guns, which he took with him on his trip out west.
He loved to tell stories of the west to his wife and children, they were so interested in his stories of the life that they could have if they ventured to the other side of the Missouri River! Ben was a farmer at heart and longed to have his own place, so, he packed his family up and moved them out west to find a better life for them.

Chapter One
Benjamin Joseph Sharp was the third son of Joseph Benjamin Sharp and is called B.J. Sharp in this novel.B. J. Sharp's father was born and raised in the territory known today as Vermont. His birth name was Joseph Benjamin Sharp, known to his friends and family as Joe Sharp. He was raised in a very religious family and lived with the word of God all his life. His father, Luther Sharp, was a high ranking member of a religious group calling themselves the Disciples of God. Joe was required to attend church weekly and as he grew to become a young man, he took up duty as a church deacon. His belief in God and the rules he had been taught was strong in all the deeds of his life.
As a young man he met and married Margaret Phiffer. Joe met Margaret in school but as a young boy did not pay much attain to her. As he grew older he began working with a silversmith in Jonesburg, Vermont. One afternoon he was asked to take the buckboard to town to have a wheel repaired. He had a little time on his hands, as the blacksmith told him it would take two hours or more to finish the work. As he was walking down the street, he noticed a woman having a great deal of trouble trying to get her horse to back up a buckboard so she could go forward.
The horse did not like what she was trying to do and was dancing around and rearing up. Joseph watched the scene for a minute and decided to see if he could help. He spoke to the woman and asked if she needed help.
She replied, "Oh please! She does not like the way I drive and wants to do things her way."
