Oak Cliff Farm has been plagued by tragedy, nightmares, and horror for over one hundred and fifty years. The house itself presents its dark history through flashbacks, hidden clues, and ghostly occurrences to Merline Madagascar, who is a house-whisperer of sorts. Unlike other houses with joyful histories that Merline has visited and heard, this house presents a unique challenge when its new owners, Jack and Erica, call Merline to help restore the house to its former elegance. Weary of a recurring nightmare caused by its first owners; the house wants nothing more than to provide shelter to a loving family with children.

Oak Cliff Farm welcomes Jack and Erica with the hope that they will be the ones to bring happiness to its rooms once again. But a wandering soul still hovers over Oak Cliff Farm, causing unrest and apprehensiveness for all its subsequent owners. Accompanying Merline are her historically-inclined husband Daniel, her intrepid architect/contractor Verne, Chef Jacques and his significant other Erica, and a host of other characters. Will Oak Cliff's past prove too much for Merline? Or will the more than a century-long series of ill-fated events finally come to an end?

Oak Cliff: A Tale of Darkness and Despair

Chapter One

I truly want to look and feel my best today because prospective buyers are coming to see me. I have had a few quiet days while the erstwhile spirit of Ilsa Rowan has kept silent. Perhaps she too is hoping for new owners who might free her from her self-imposed vigil of my premises. Today the sun is providing pleasant warmth; that means my joints and floorboards won't creak or groan. There still remain some accoutrements from my last resident but all of her personal effects have been removed. You see, I am all that remains of the once prosperous Oak Cliff Farm and I hope to attract a different sort of owner, perhaps a family that doesn't dwell on the dark side of life. I've been placed on the auction block by an attorney and a realtor who share the responsibility for selling me in order to acquire funds to support my last owner who now resides in a nursing home.

About a month ago in a rather complicated scenario, Abby Simmons, the daughter of my last resident, had stripped me of everything but the furniture before turning over my care to the family attorney. He in turn called upon a realtor that he trusted and I was given a large, rather ugly "For Sale" sign that blocks my view of the cemetery across the street. Alas, I can do nothing but wait patiently to see who will contribute next to my history. During the past couple of months a few people have come through to inspect my rooms but all I've received are headaches and sore spots where I was poked and prodded by the lookers. I suppose it will be the same today.

"Ah, here comes the realtor now," I thought to myself as I saw a car sporting the logo of the realty office e
