The caves were supposed to be haunted, but Alex didn't believe any of that. It was the first day of summer vacation, and no frightening legend about an Indian burial ground could keep him from adventure. Even though two boys had gone missing in the caves fifteen years before, Alex dragged his sister, Valerie, along with their cousins, Jason and Meghan, to the caves. In the early summer heat, the caves begged to be explored.
While wandering in the underground caverns, they come upon a book. How could they have guessed the stories were true-that a spirit really did live in the caves and that the book they found was not a toy? By tampering with the book belonging to the Spirit of the Cave, they have changed the course of history.
When the book opens to page 1912, the children are cast into the faraway past to the maiden voyage of the ill-fated Titanic. They must fix the mess they've made of history, but in order to do so, they have to locate the book, which is lost somewhere on the ship. If they find the book, they'll repair the fabric of time and find a way home. If they don't, they may go down with the ship!

The Cave
It is really hard to say how we got into this mess, but what it comes down to is this: We should have listened to our Uncle Matt and gone to the park with our cousins Lewis, Zach, and Ben.
My name is Alex, and I am writing this story down because no one in his or her right mind would believe what happened to my sister Valerie, my cousins Meghan and Jason, and me. The three of them laugh at me for writing our adventure down, but it helps to keep my mind off our present situation. Sometimes I wonder if we will ever get back home ...
June started out like any other day. My cousin Jason and I were going bike riding down to the caves at the edge of town. We had put on our backpacks and were just about ready to go when my uncle called down from the house.
"Alex, are you and Jason going to take your sisters bike riding with you today? You promised yesterday, remember?"
I looked up at my uncle and knew that there was no use arguing with him. I could not wait until our parents got back from their vacation in Australia. There was only one more week until they got back and goodbye Uncle Matt!
