Jaffe's debut tells the story of Gordon Nash, a part-time lawyer whose wife walks away from marriage and motherhood, leaving him solely responsible for raising their child, Calvin. Father and son move to Kansas, where Gordon gradually achieves a delicate balance in making a life for them -- only to have that balance, and his relationship with his new love, jeopardized by the reappearance of his ex-wife.
