Reader Review: This book grabbed me and sucked me right into it. As I've found with most period novels the female lead got on my nerves more times then not, but regardless I stayed into it. I'd read it again. Besides, the sex was pretty hotttt.
How far would you go for revenge?
Cassandra Braxton’s husband, Viscount Reddington, is evil incarnate. When he is murdered, she cannot mourn him, especially when he continues to plague her from beyond the grave. His will stipulates that she cannot claim her inheritance unless she has a child. The clause is a cruel joke. Reddington never consummated the marriage.
Refusing to be defeated, Cassandra conspires to keep Reddington’s death a secret. She goes to the home of Mark Foxwood, a handsome rake she has admired from afar, and makes an outrageous proposition.
After being mocked by the woman he loved, Mark Foxwood retires to the country to spend the winter months alone. When Cassandra breezes into his study and asks him to get her with child, he is aroused and provoked by her determination. He agrees to her offer, but as he teaches her about fleshly delights, her open, honest passion pulls at his heart. Her love may be the only thing that can save him from despair.

A Carnal Agreement
Chapter One
"I will give you one more chance to reconsider. I am not a gentleman. You cannot expect me to behave as one when I bed you."She gave him a tight smile. "If I expected such, I would never have come here."
"Very well."
He started to follow her to the door, but she turned and said. "I can show myself out."
He gripped her arm. "I wish to seal our bargain."
Cassandra stepped back, intending to tell him there was no need, but her protest died when he pulled her hard against him.
His lips hovered inches from hers. She could scarcely breathe.
"Does the lovely viscountess have a name? I refuse to use titles in bed."
"Cassandra. My name is Cassandra." It came out as a choked whisper.
"Excellent, you may address me as Mark."
She nodded.
"Cassandra, darling, you have any idea how much danger you are in?"
"What do you mean?" She never got an answer. Instead, he brought his mouth down on hers.
There was nothing gentle about the way he kissed her. He was branding her as his property rather than sealing their bargain. Yet her body responded in ways she'd never dreamed of. Heat flooded her, and an aching tightness coalesced at the juncture of her thighs. She couldn't breathe. She thought her lungs would burst, but she didn't want him to stop.
When his tongue pressed against her lips, forcing them open, she moaned. Her response mortified her, but she couldn't help it. He stroked the inside of her mouth with his tongue, and her knees buckled. She would have crumpled to the floor if he hadn't wrapped his arms around her back, bringing her whole body in contact with his. <

Suprisingly I enjoyed this book. Fortunately it started off straight to the point, no delaying. At first Mark feels betrayed and hurt and decides on celibacy and ofcourse that flew straight out the window in one day lol Cassandra's offer was just too tempting and ofcourse it was exactly what he needed to get over Kat. The sex was steamy, and Mark and Cass suited each other really well. There were however certain types of abuse in this book that I couldn't stomach but one that ties everything together. This book is very sexually explicit and sexual and physical abuse is apart of it and no there is no such abuse between Mark and Cass.

Born as the bastard son of a duke, Mark yearns for love but is tormented with the fact that gentle society does not consider him marriage material. He is as alpha as they come. His need for control and to protect himself against heartbreak, might came across as arrogant and overbearing. But, I sympathize with him. He won me over with his loving and caring nature. The physical attraction between Mark and Cassandra is hot and steamy. Unfortunately, she is such a spoiled brat I don't see what Mark loves about her. I imagine someone who was treated cruelly by her deceased husband will understand how it feels to be slighted. Instead, Cassandra treats and uses Mark like a servant, as someone below her station. Lecturing forever about his duty to her but never taking the time to understand him. Being forthright does not mean insensitivity. She is also the most pigheaded and brainless woman ever. It is one thing to be strong-minded, it is another to run headlong without thinking about consequences. My only consolation is that the story is well written and entertaining. I do wish for a more likable heroine though.

I enjoyed this book overall. The conflict is interesting, and the two main characters are a joy to watch together. There's a bit too much 'we can't be together' at the end, but it was resolved well.
