Reader Review: I read this purely because EVERYONE was talking about it, so me being me, I had to join in. Also, this is a general review of the three books since they're essentially one book written in three covers (more later). First of all, I made the mistake of researching the author and learning that this came directly out of Twilight. Maybe to the uninformed reader the similarities aren't so glariningly obvious to be nausiating. Second, Ms. James needs to stick with writing romance, NOT erotica. I'm new to this genre, but even I know that not every sex scene needs to start with "Let's take off your clothes" and "the familiar sound of the foil wrapper"--the use of these two lines just made me want to start flipping pages. I'd say that 90% of the sex scenes felt like she'd just copied and pasted. The rest, which is generally where the BDSM was involved, felt faked, as though she was afraid to go too far in depth and/or wasn't very familiar with her topic. On a positive note, I rather enjoyed the actual plot of the story and applaud Ms. James (and her agent/publisher) for going with the three volume system. I read the three books in quick succession because you have to if the plot catches your attention at all. The use of way too much gratuitous (AND BORING) sex scenes padded the books so that binding them inside one cover would be ridiculous thus forcing readers to purchase all three when one would have sufficed. Brilliant marketing ploy!
SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE
When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.
Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.
Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.
This book is intended for mature audiences.

Title: Fifty Shades of Grey January 23, 2014 I remember a friend introduced it to me and I said no. Dark romance... it wasn't really my type of story. But I later on tried skimming through the book and wow! I think I read it through a 2 times in a row. Then checked out the sequel. That's how good this story is. The scenes with BDSM I skipped because it really wasn't my thing. But the plot compelled me to keep reading, the hero deeply charismatic yet broken in a way, and the heroine who is an average joe but so much better! Can't really explain but it just completely intrigued me and I even cried! So amazing!!!

The way E.L. James has written this book has made it one of the best eroticas I have ever read. I can say the same for the other two books in the Fifty Shades Trilogy. These books have me sitting here thinking "where is my Christian Grey!" This book is a must read.

The book was great but that's it. She used the same words over again. I am in love with Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The sex scenes were hot but other parts were just boring. Honestly she could have wrote a little better.

After hearing all the fuss about this series on just about everything, I decided to give it a read. Now I am a male, who enjoys romance and love more than most other males, and I found this book excellent in both departments. When I first picked up the book, I wasn't sure if it was my thing, but I quickly changed my mind and was caught up in the story. Before I knew it I had read through the entire series and was begging for more (even with the fairy tale ending).
This book was definitely a gateway for me to reach into a new genre and find something else that I enjoy reading, and I have no regrets with starting with this book.
