Reader Review: another great story from this author. she has a talent for creating unique societies. like all her novels, daemon is irresistible. while the hea ending was predictable, the road to get there was wonderful, humorous, and full of tender moments.

After saving his younger brother's child, Daemon Shar is cursed by a witch and runs far from home, a stray who will seemingly never be anything more. But destiny is hard to outrun, even for a man who is now more cat than man beneath his robes and cowl. A chance battlefield meeting between he and Ehron, a foreign lord, gives him purpose amidst the darkness of his accursed life. Soon Daemon finds that his true nature cannot be corrupted no matter the form he inhabits. As Ehron's consul, Daemon plots and plans to shape his new lord's future so that he may leave it blessed when he runs away yet again. But he never counted on his soul hungering for Ehron's brother Gareth or for his past to catch him by the tail at last.

The Servant

I am always up for reading anything by Mary Calmes and 'The Servant' does not disappoint. Daemon is one of those truly pure hearted individuals that wants the best for the people around him and he doesn't even see how wonderful a person he is. The book takes place during a time of war yet it doesn't focus on the violence of war but the relationships between Daemon and Gareth, Ehron etc. and how their lives are better from having Daemon in them. Gareth 'sees' Daemon for exactly who he is despite Daemon's belief that he is cursed and not worthy.
