This is a story about faith, faith in God and his spirit, the Holy Spirit. It is a story about relying on that faith to make the important decisions in life, the Vital Decisions. Like all of us, Cathy Landis must make important decisions. Like all of us, Cathy struggles to make the right decisions. One of the most important decisions of her life is to not have an abortion; she decides to carry her baby to term. Scared and confused, Cathy visits a local Catholic church. Sitting quietly in that church, her long forgotten faith in God wells up into her consciousness. Cathy searches her soul and calls on the Holy Spirit to guide her in making future decisions. Relying on her resurrected faith, Cathy’s decisions affect the lives of her child, Michael, her father, Jack, her future husband, Jon Ranaldi, her closest friend, Rachel, and the lives of many people living in a remote part of the world that she will never even meet. Cathy uses her faith to make decisions that ultimately help her child overcome blindness, seizures, lameness, autism, and dyslexia. It is this child who, as an adult, guided by his mother’s faith, saves the lives of others. The decisions that Cathy makes, which lead her son to make his life saving decisions, are Vital Decisions.
