The Los Angeles International airport and surrounding area was devastated and left in ruins by an unexplained explosion. The Earth is experiencing strange weather patterns that some attribute to global warming. There are droughts all over the world. A big chunk of the Antarctic ice shelf has broken off, frozen tundra is thawing in the Arctic and rising sea levels inundate islands and land adjacent to the seas. Scientists predict imminent catastrophic conditions. In a desperate effort to save the environment, Daniel teams up with a dozen other qualified volunteers to transport samples of living organisms into the thirty-first century. To rebuild the ecology, they plan to reintroduce plant and animal life. Arriving at their destination, they find the Earth as a toxic, lifeless world. When trying to terraform the Earth they meet unbearable demands and living restrictions. The team later faces a moral dilemma and makes drastic changes to the way of life as they had known it, to a more simple existence where technology is nonexistent.
