At the death of her father, Rachel and her sister leave everything they know to join her uncle on his farm. As a deeply committed Christian, he begins to share his faith with Rachel by his deeds as well as his words. Because of her uncle, Rachel becomes involved with a poverty-stricken family led by a violent, unreasonable man. Her relationship with his six-year-old son transforms her as much as it changes the boy.
