Hagador's Orchard is the ongoing story of the lives of Old Sal and his family and the native backyard animals portrayed by the lizards and the mice. New characters arrive as we meet the Vulture and the Hawk and then the humans who tend the orchard. After the creatures from the first book, Hagador's Children, awaken from their winter hibernation they have to make some choices that will take them away from the home where they grew up. As it is with the humans in this tale, life tumbles them in directions they had not expected, which leads all of them to their intersecting paths through the Hagador Orchard of Corona. Life lessons continue. Friendship and courage and love trump bad outcomes. Human and animal lives intertwine in this short sometimes poetic saga that may be the bookend on Hagador's Children. Read on as the innocent love story of our own lives can be found in many different ways in this tale. The author elevates the writing of this second Hagador tale in Corona in such a way that the story within the story is an effortless blend that pleases the intelligence of both the young and the adult. Your heart will ache as you see time catch up with the characters. You will laugh at some of the predicaments and you will marvel at the resilience of the animal and human spirit against loneliness, its greatest enemy. And throughout the story you will appreciate the visual descriptions of nature. Read this book as a follow-up to the first in the series, Hagador's Children, to fully grasp the build of the story.
