Deacon Sender loved his Doberman Pinscher Rooter. As a private investigator he found Rooter to be quite useful in catching bad guys including Emerson Paisley, the monster who enjoyed stealing expensive cars and killing young gay men. Throughout his long life Deacon always wanted a dog by his side. That is, until he fell in love with his beautiful postwoman. She carried his mail and eventually his heart. Deacon becomes embroiled in many surreal cases some involving ghosts, monsters, and child molesters. With the help of his friend Carlos, his wonderful wife, and his many canine companions, Deacon became a well-known investigator among the street poor, mentally ill, and helpless. Deacon became a hero, but his dogs were the greatest heroes of all.
