Chapter One No one should die more than once, but this dream had death written all over it. Peering through the snake-like cloud formed by her breath and hugging her leather clad self tight she looked around at her surroundings. She needed a place to go until she woke up. Lit torches here and there, shining on the immediate circle of thatch roofed huts, created dancing shadows and hid anything beyond their ring of light. She couldn’t take the time to look for a hiding place. She needed to make one. Finding a shadowed corner she tucked herself into the junction of two huts. Pushing a lump of fear down her throat, she renewed her search for a better place to hide. She wouldn’t be caught out in the open this time. Her feet froze to the ground and her knees threatened to buckle. It was happening again. A stinging in the middle of her chest brought her gaze lower. Blood oozed from between her breasts. Like the last time, she knew who she was but also knew this was a dream and she would die just before it ended. Lit by the flickering light of a nearby torch and covered in a blue color that cracked along the lines, her hands didn’t look familiar. A strange, but recognizable feeling of déjà vu came over her. Blinking, and taking a closer look at her hands she realized they weren’t her hands. Neither was her body. She was thinner than normal, her body longer. Screams stopped her inspection. Looking for the source of the raised voices, she stopped wondering about the cold and her appearance, the fear of immediate danger replacing anything less important.
