Following the death of her mother, 11 year old Jackie's father feels unable to cope with the children and Jackie is sent to Devon to live with a grandfather she has barely met. A complete townie who is unused to any animal, Jackie is initially worried that there are dogs, horses and cats of all shapes and sizes populating the farm. However, she falls in love with the beautiful horse, Tia, who helps her to come to terms with her new life. Gradually she settles in well and learns to ride, but clouds gather on the horizon in the shape of vindictive human animals and things become dangerous. Can Jackie cope, not only with the loss of her young mother, but also with the spiralling hatred and spite of a deranged mind that threatens to engulf her very existence?
