The family tradition of moonshining is a common way of life for many folk in the poverty stricken region of Eastern Kentucky. For Frank Jamison, backwoods distilling is his primary means to surviving the harsh and uneconomical time. Three years have passed since the ratification of the 18th Amendment, which banned the sale and distribution of intoxicating liquors. It was also then, in 1920, Frank had his first run-in with the infamous federal revenuers. The encounter resulted in a temporary setback for his business, but also led to the tragic and heart-breaking loss of his oldest daughter. Now, Frank is once again feeling the pressure from the local authorities. They threaten to tear down his moonshining operation, which again will leave him in a desperate scramble to provide for his family. This time, with the stakes being much higher, Frank struggles to make a rational decision between fighting to the bloody end for the people he loves, or relinquishing to the law and dealing with the possibility of reliving the horrific past. *Also available in the mini short story collection "Spirited Souls."
