Reader Review: This is Smite's story and one of Milan's best to date. A refreshing story that involves a seamstress and magistrate NOT members of the TON. Plenty of mystery and a romance that will make you sigh when you read how Smite's tough walls come breaking down. This was one of my top 10 for 2011. If you love historical romance pick it up, you won't be disappointed.
Smite Turner is renowned for his single-minded devotion to his duty as a magistrate. But behind his relentless focus lies not only a determination to do what is right, but the haunting secrets of his past—secrets that he is determined to hide, even if it means keeping everyone else at arm’s length. Until the day an irresistible woman shows up as a witness in his courtroom… Miranda Darling isn’t in trouble…yet. But she’s close enough that when Turner threatens her with imprisonment if she puts one foot wrong, she knows she should run in the other direction. And yet no matter how forbidding the man seems on the outside, she can’t bring herself to leave. Instead, when he tries to push her away, she pushes right back—straight through his famous self-control, and into the heart of the passion that he has long hidden away… Unraveled is a full length novel, at 95,000 words.

I liked this story. Smite's character changes from a distant, cold man to a passionate one, all because of Miranda. Her patience and acceptance of him, where others had given up,was endearing. It was a well witten and enjoyable book.

Surprisingly this is a good book. Without giving too much away, Smite was a bit unbending and unyielding (though he gave in from time to time) and Miranda was definitely met for him even though she didn't realize it at first. It seems that there was no connection between them but as always true love prevails.

‘Unraveled’ is the second book I’ve ready by Courtney Milan. The first was ‘Unlocked’ which I enjoyed. I like her character development and her sense of humor. Her female characters seem unique for the time period they are in. They are strong and willing to fight for their convictions. They men are equally as strong you can also see an emotional side to them. Seeing Smite and Miranda come together, when at the beginning it didn’t seem possible, made the journey of the story interesting and fun.
