There had been no warning. The three were hiking along the ridge trail on a camping trip. It was getting dusk and they were looking for a good place to camp. He had suggested the place where he was now crouching. Buddy and Hector wanted to go up the trail and get closer to the top of the ridge. He was a little mad at his two buddies and was hanging back when the beams blinked on and came towards them. His reaction was an immediate run and dive for cover.
